Hey I'm Ross! I was born and raised in the beautiful mountain town of Sisters, OR. I fell in love with the mountains and the outdoors, and the transition to capturing them through photo and video came naturally. I moved to Northfield Minnesota in 2016, to attend St. Olaf College. It was here that I met my beautiful wife, Sarah. As my photo hobby began to turn into a business, my adoptive sister Hannah (who took this picture, and you should check out her stuff here!) gave me one of her older cameras.

Swaying Pines Photo + Film evolved out of the idea for full-service wedding storytelling. Originally Ross Grant Photography, the business now includes associate photographers and videographers who can help capture your day in both mediums! This talented team helps to ensure a uniform look to your photos and films.

In 2019 I was asked to shoot my first wedding, and ever since then I have found joy in joining couples on their special day and providing stunning photos and videos to remind them of the biggest day of their lives. I am passionate about my clients’ experience. Whether it’s photographing a small elopement or a huge wedding in Landmark Center, my desire is to create a fun and relaxed environment where people can be in the moment and enjoy themselves. I talk a lot about moments because they are core to my business model. I don’t create moments - I experience them alongside you while capturing them so you can cherish them for years to come.

Photography and videography are investments - often, the more you put into it the higher quality vendor you’ll be able to book. I am dedicated to working with your budget, and being as flexible as possible to make your day work! I have several packages so we can find a price that fits your budget, but photo collections start at $3500 and video collections start at $3600. Photo and video can also be booked together! Let’s chat and come up with a specialized quote for what you need!
Absolutely! I firmly believe in LGBTQIA+ rights. Love is love, and I’d be honored to capture the love story that you and your fiance are writing together. I’d also be happy to refer you to some queer-friendly wedding vendors to check out!
I tend to describe my style as cinematic, natural, rich, and candid. I love films and pictures that are shot with beautiful use of lighting (think “The Mandalorian”) while maintaining true-to-life contrast, and so I tend towards that while editing. I am also a strong believer in capturing the real moments within a day, so I am focussed on primarily candid photography, even during the posed sessions! This not only helps the pictures look natural, but this style helps keep you comfortable and having fun.
Every wedding photography package comes fully edited, and you will receive an online gallery to download, print, and post however you’d like. The number of pictures varies from wedding to wedding, but the average is 60-70 per hour. Most photo packages include a free engagement session as well! As for films, you'll receive a recap video of your wedding day with music and audio captured on the day (ie vows). We also offer full ceremony and speeches coverage, and some other add-ons!
Of course! I LOVE to travel and do weddings and elopements domestically and internationally! Weddings within 100 miles of Saint Paul, Minnesota don't have added travel fees. If it's further than that, I try to travel as inexpensively as possible so we can make it work with your budget! Reach out and let’s chat.
